The project was commissioned by the non-profit organization Equal Justice Initiative. EJI wanted an explainer to inform and educate about the history behind the several schools named in honor of Confederate leaders who fought to preserve slavery and racial hierarchy in America. Besides the specific topic addressed in the animation, the prepreparedrpose of the project was to grow awareness and start a deeper conversation on the roots and consequences of racial inequality.
